Hi, I haven't stayed in Vila Recife but I have walked past it many times. The location is execellent, 2 minutes walk will take you to lots of bars & restaurants and it's very close to the beach too. It's a good base.

Hi, I have been to Albufeira old town many times but had never stayed at the Villa Recife, although I also kept walking past it. We went in to have a look round last time we was there in November, the staff were helpful and it looked pretty good so we booked it on the internet for our next trip. We are staying there for a week from 9th May so I shall post a reply when I return and let you know how it went and any other info that might be helpful.

Hi Leelloo

I am going out to Albufeira in the morning (Saturday), and staying at the Vila Recife! Will let you know how I get on. Regarding info on what to do, what sort of things do you normally do on holiday? I am hoping just to chill out, walk, eat and drink - not necessarily in that order!

Best wishes

Well I got back yesterday and had a great time. The rooms are basic, but clean and tidy. I was on the fifth floor (as requested), and had a great view overlooking the old town, the square and the sea in the distance. The room had a kettle, fridge and tv.

The breakfasts were nice, every morning I had orange juice, coffee, museli and a bread roll with ham and cheese. The breakfast area also doubled as a bar in the evening, which was well stocked, but not many people used it. This closed at midnight.

The beach is just a short walk away, and what a beach! The sea was pretty cold but I managed to swim every day. Word of warning - we ended up spending 15e a day on beds and a parasol as the sand was really hot, and I could feel myself getting burnt. Better safe than sorry.

We had some great meals out - namely the Three Crowns, O Tunel, Cave restaurant and Casa de Fonte (sorry about the spelling). Our favourite bar was called Bank, and had live music every night.

We had a brilliant time, and hope you will do too. Let me know if I can help any more.

Clareski x

Well I too had a very nice time and would confirm everything clareski says. The hotel was clean and comfortable, we were surprised it had air-con, fridge, kettle, knives, plates etc as we only paid 52 pounds each for six nights with greatlatedeals.com, unbelievable. The building work is mostly up the fishermans beach end of the town now so didn't really make too much difference to us. The pool is ok but goes in the shade around 4pm and no breeze so we preferred the beach. The steps we would usually use down to the beach were closed so we had to walk down the steps to the tunnel to reach the beach, not too bad going down but the walk back did seem to get easier as the week passed! Depending on what you like to do some other options are walking straight out of the hotel and past the hotel rocamar to a bar called Javali, all British clientelle with a quiz at 10pm on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Just before the Rocamar turn right up a windy slope to a bar restaurant called Gabi, owned by (I think) Austrians. The steaks were very reasonable and good, mostly irish customers so they have Irish music and flags and the Austrian man behind the bar is a Manchester United supporter, stange but true. Augusto's karaoke bar is open till late apart from Sundays (next to the Barracuda Pub - good Sunday Roasts there) just off the square. If you want to get a bit of the Portugese culture turn right out of the hotel and up the hill to a tapas bar on the roundabout called O Frutus, next to an Indian Restaurant. You can sit outside on a hot day with a glass of wine and a bottle of Sagres beer for under 2 Euros, it seems popular with the Portugese but very small, the owner speaks good English. If you have plenty of time at the airport on your return and want to eat or drink walk down to arrivals and up the escalators, the prices are about 1/3 of what you pay in departures for exactly the same thing.

Hope that helps a bit, I am sure you will have a great time, we would definitely go back, the only downside for us was a bit of noise from the square at night but it wasn't too bad and we both slept well.

Hi, weather was fantastic. It was about 80 degrees every day, not a cloud in the sky, cooler at night and on our last night I had to sit inside when we were eating our meal as it was quite windy.

The parasols and umbrellas were 5 euros each for the day, and you had to move by 1800. My legs got a bit burnt one day, and the parasol was essential to keep the sun off me.

Would send some pictures but I dont think I could do the beaches justice. Did not take many photos to be honest, too busy admiring the view.

If I had to recommend somewhere to eat, the most memorable meal was at O Tunel (head down towards tunnel beach, it is up the steps on the left hand side). We had mixed kebabs that were the nicest I have ever had. The place had a really nice atmosphere, and would go back again. Much nicer food than Casa de Fonte (if I have spelt that right) which is opposite. My opinion only obviously!

Have fun x
