Let's say you drive thru Nogales.
Questions?
What part of Veracruz? Veracruz the capitol? Veracruz is relatively big, so saying north, central and south can vary the time, but let's say you travel to Veracruz, the capital.
Option 1.
Tucson - Nogales 1 hour, 9 minutes, 71.04 miles aprox.
* Borded Crossing *
Nogales - Hermosillo 2.00 hrs, 173 kms > 107 miles
Hermosillo - Chihuahua 13 hrs, 694 kms > 431 miles
Chihuahua - Saltillo 8.45 hrs 737 kms > 457 miles
Saltillo - San Luis Potosi 5.45 hrs,449 kms > 278 miles
San Luis Potosi - Tampico 6.00 hrs, 401 kms > 249 miles
Tampico - Veracruz 8 hrs, 552 kms > 342 miles
Total: 1,864 miles.
I have the feeling that driving Hermosillo - Chihuahua takes driving throu mountains maybe, I have never taken this one, but it shows too long time compared to do it along the cost and then drive to Durango - Zacatecas - San Luis
Also, those numbers are based on Kilometers and driving at 80 kms/hr or 50 mph.
Hermosillo - Culiacan
Culiacan - Mazatlan
Mazatlan - Durango
Durango - Zacatecas
Zacatecas - San Luis *or Aguascalientes, then San Luis.
Total 1,634 miles from Nogales to Veracruz throu the pacific coast and Durango.
This is the route I have seen people using the most, plus there are highways in some parts which makes it a bit faster.
IMO, If you plan to make this trip, I suggest you to get you a map beforehand, I use one called Guia Roji, it shows me the timing and kilometers, it's pretty practical. My husband use a program called Microsoft MapPoint and it gives you most of the routes, except couple key things from mexico as roads in contruction.
