Kruger National Park From Maputo to Kruger Park
Posted: Thu April 26, 2007 09:55 PM UTC
My wife and I will be in Maputo in June and would like to visit Kruger Park and spend 2 nights there. Can anyone suggest the safest and easiest way to go from Maputo to one of the camps and then get back to Maputo? What camp would you recommend? In the camp, can we easily book safaries (day & night)? Thanks

Driving from Maputo to Kruger is really easy and safe. The roads in the city of Maputo are a bit of a disaster (huge potholes) but there is an excellent toll road from just outside the city all the way to the South Africa border. Just going from memory, it will take about 2 hours driving time from Maputo to Kruger.

However, on 22 June '07 the schools close in the Johannesburg area and there is a big stream of holidaymakers to Kruger and Moz. The border post will be chaos, and it will be impossible to find accommodation or drives in Kruger. Early June will be much easier, but game drives are probably already fully booked. Use the website the previous poster gave and make on-line bookings immediately.

Lower Sabie will probably be the nicest camp site, but they are all good. Take whatever camp you can get from Skukuza and further south.
