Hi there,

I'd strongly recommend going for a price-per-km (or base amount upto 100 km and extra if more) and not a fixed one per day. The fixed one might seem in the advantage of the tourist but IMHO always backfires, in worse service or other 'caveats' when extra km are at the loss of the driver.

Usual all-in rate is around Rs 30-35 per km for good AC car, insured, with a driver with tourist board license. Bargains below this are possible but sometimes 'at a price'.

Agencies like Walkers and Hemtours are reliable in renting these, though not always the cheapest. In recent posts some recommended driver details were given. 'Ours' are available if you e-mail through VT or preferably at erikdr@popmail.com.

At your service,

<Erik> & [Sandya]

Hi,

Yes, there are reputed travel agents in Sri Lanka (Hemtours). Other options are just calling up a Cab company and hiring out on the Km...this will depend on how much travelling you want to do (only within city limits or out of colombo). The day packages will cost you around Rs. 2500 - 3000 (Abt $23USD) , and they give you upto around 80km - 100km for that. Some charge a waiting charge after 8hrs. What ever you look at I would say your minimum cost would be 2500 and can go up.....you hotel could also arrange (But will be expensive) depends on where you will be staying.

Let me know if you need numbers.

Cheers,
Glen

Hey there,

I spent an amazing 10 days travelling all around Lanka back in January and had the services of a wonderful driver and guide whom I was put in contact with via a recommendation from a number of colleagues that had used him before.

His name is Raja and his details are as follows:

Raja, 151/A1 Temple Road, Aluthgama, Bandaragama, Sri Lanka

+94 (0) 777 - 065438 / (0) 38 - 2290381

email: rajatour10@hotmail.com

I cannot recommend him highly enough. He will pick you up at the airport and take you wherever you wish to go. He knows the country and all its best spots like the back of his hand.

Enjoy your trip. I loved the place and the people are amazing. I'm hoping to return myself in June for a short break and can't wait for it.

Xb
