Hiring a 4x4 is rather expensive; you could try and find some company in Mopti to share the costs.
You could also contact Alkaye Traore; he is a guide/pinassier, he owns a pinasse but also a 4x4 and maybe he has already some bookings and you can come along; or he may know about some other tourists who want to go to Tomboctou and you can join them.

And if all that is no option or fails in any way you can try the truck-stop in Mopti; a lot of trucks go from there to Tomboctou. Just ask around.
