I'm planning to go to Timbouctou in August and I'm interested what sort of transport can I use. Is boat the only option or the buses goes as well?

If you need to go to Tombouctou, the best way is to rent a 4x4! On the way to Timbouctou, you will discover some fascinating places like The Dogon!

Tnx for the info, but I'm gonna be traveling alone and renting 4x4 is a bit over my budget :) I'm interested in busses or if i can buy just a seat in some 4x4.

Hiring a 4x4 is rather expensive; you could try and find some company in Mopti to share the costs.

You could also contact Alkaye Traore; he is a guide/pinassier, he owns a pinasse but also a 4x4 and maybe he has already some bookings and you can come along; or he may know about some other tourists who want to go to Tomboctou and you can join them.

And if all that is no option or fails in any way you can try the truck-stop in Mopti; a lot of trucks go from there to Tomboctou. Just ask around.
