| Victoria | Tips for weekend Posted: Tue April 24, 2007 12:50 PM UTC
Greetings Fellow Vts,
I will be in Victoria this weekend through next Friday with my wife. Does anyone know of any special events or "Must See" things to see while I'm there. My wife will be in training during the days, so I will need places to visit during the days. Thanks in advance. Beamer |

Don't know what your interests are, but Butchart Gardens would be on my must see list. Also, you can do various cruises including a whale watching one. It is a beautiful city with lots of interesting sights.

The Royal BC Museum is always high on my list. It's not your typical item-behind-glass-casing museum. Lots of the displays are life-sized recreations of historical periods throughout the history of BC. I believe there's even a temporary Titanic exhibit, which, if it's the same one I saw in Seattle, is excellent.

By the way, here's the link. Be sure to click on the Exhibits/Galleries link, as it gives you a better appreciation of all the walk-through displays. You could easily spend 3 hours in that museum!

Royal BC Museum has the Titanic exhibit on right now, which features actual artifacts brought up from the wreck and recreations of several rooms on the ship. I checked it out last week and it's quite a good exhibit. The museum also has a new exhibit of First Nations art opening this Friday. It was REALLY busy when I visited, and I would highly suggest going the night before to buy your tickets (the museum closes at 5:00 but the box office remains open until 8:00) and returning the following day to see the exhibit. Of course, when you buy a ticket you also get to see everything else in the museum. The whole thing takes about three or four hours, so it's a great way to pass a day.
Other than that, there aren't many special events on yet. If you're looking for good solo lunch spots I would highly recommend Rebar in Bastion Square and "the soup place" (I totally don't remember its name) that is inside the office building in the block bordered by Yates, View, Douglas and Blanshard. The entrance is beside The Cobbler shoe store on View Street, just a few doors up from Douglas Street. One summer I ate at the soup place EVERY DAY, all summer! Don't go to "the other soup place" (by the bus stop on Douglas) because it's horrible!

Just give yourself time for a pub crawl. Great pubs there with live music at many of them!
