Hua Hin Being vegan in Hua Hin

We are thinking of booking a trip to Bangkok and Hua Hin for January.
I think Hua Hin will be the right resort for us, partly because we don't
want to take another flight after we leave Bangkok and partly because
we like places that are fairly quiet but with a choice of restaurants etc.

So, if we do decide to go to Hua Hin, will it be easy to eat as a vegan there?

Hua Hin, will it be easy to eat as a vegan there?

If you want to eat in restaurants, impossible.
Restaurants and "vegan" don't go together in Thailand.
Restaurants here cook everything.

There is probably an Indian restaurant or two in Hua Hin.
It will offer some vegetarian, of course, but that's not the same as vegan.

However, if you buy food in markets, yes, certainly.
And shopping in local, native-style markets, is a gentle adventure.

In general, Hua Hin caters to tourists who are mainly older men from Northern Europe.
So restaurants in Hua Hin offer lots of wurst, schnitzel and you can easily find a good, stewed, pork knuckle.
Hua Hin is also famous for seafood -- cooked.

In Thai restaurants, salads are rare.
Thais hardly ever eat salad -- with one exception.
And a main ingredient of salad seasoning here is fish sauce.

The salad exception is green papaya salad.
In Thai this is called, "som-tahm", or "pah-pah-yah-pohk-pokk".
This is poor-people food here so it's rare to find it in restaurants.
You may notice vendors squatting on the street, pounding out papaya salad for local customers.
If you find yourself tempted, be aware that seasonings include fish sauce and dried shrimp.

But you can always buy fruits and veggies at the markets.
Lots of that and very fresh.
Hua Hin is in the middle of a fruit-growing area: bananas, pineapples, coconuts and other tropical fruits.
One of the "unseen" adventures available in Thailand is sampling fruits you've never tasted before, and never even seen before.
That can be a lot of fun.
Be careful, though, too much of certain fruits, can cause unhappy tummies.
You don't want to spend your days in Thailand sitting and staring at the bathroom wall.

But, now, a side comment with a respectful suggestion for you:
I've known a few vegans -- relatives.
Regardless of their ages, they preferred a life-style that can be described as tie-dyed, natural-fiber, yoga-every-morning.
If that's your preference, then you won't find many others of like-mind in Hua Hin.

There are two Thai vegetarian restaurants in Hua Hin ( as far as i know)
one is here the songteaws for Takiab leave from ( next door to a 7 -11)
The other is near the bus station down a side street
dont know either address
Thai vegetarian restaurants tend to be open limited hours and generally are not open in the evenings
