Juneau Juneau & Mendenhall Glacier

The cruise ship is only in Juneau for 6 hours. Will spend some time seeing the city of Juneau and taking the Mount Roberts Tram. Does 6 hours also leave enough time to take the bus out to Mendenhall Glacier?

Yes. It is very close to port, only 15 miles. See my Juneau pages for info on the glacier.

Try and do the glacier first and then you'll know how much time you have left to wander town before ship departs. There are old school bus style buses that will run you out to the glacier for cheap. 2 hours would be enough time to get out there, look around a bit, and get back. Longer if you want to hike closer.

When you do get back to town, the area around the cruise docks are chock full of trinket stores. If that isn't your thing, walk further up the hill. The state capitol building isn't too grand, but a lot of history there. Also the Governor's mansion further up the hill. The state museum is worth a visit also.
