Victoria Family-friendly hotel/motel?
Posted: Mon April 23, 2007 08:45 PM UTC
At the end of May an old friend from Japan is arriving for a conference in Vancouver and popping down to visit us with his family in tow for 2 days. They will be catching the ferry across and have a rental car.

They have asked me about accommodation and As a new arrival to Victoria, I have no idea about the hotels here. They have a 2 year old and a 5 year old.

Can anyone recommend a nice clean and not shabby (Japanese people are very particular about that) but also child-friendly hotel or motel? I don't think it has to be in the center as they will have a car. Just something nice and not extravagantly expensive.

Thank you in advance,

Jitka

Something about the Royal Scot lobby is somewhat off-putting... I find it very dark, low-ceilinged, etc. The rooms aren't bad though (from the one suite I've seen). Another option would be the new(ish) Howard Johnson on Elk Lake Drive. It's about twenty minutes by car into downtown (or there's a bus stop a block away) and it's also twenty minutes to the Butchart Gardens. It was built about five years ago and it's a good place for families. It is right beside the pool complex that was built for the 1994 Commonwealth Games, so the kids could spend an evening watersliding, wavepooling, etc. if they wanted.
