| Cuzco | Alternate Hikes to the Inca Trail Posted: Mon April 23, 2007 03:00 PM UTC
We we too late to book the Inca Trail Trek :( Does anyone have an alternative trek that they would highly recommend??? We have either 4d/3n or 3d/2n - and would love to see the sunrise at Machu Pichu. We will be traveling mid june and are not on a tight budge --- Janet

There has been quite some discussions about alternate treks here on this forum. Check the Machu Picchu forum as well. I didn't do any treks so can't give you info.
Else you will have to go by train. www.perurail.com

If you are there for 21 June you can catch the winter solstice festival in Cuzco. Its 3 days of parades and festivities in the main square plus a sunrise ceremony at the Sacsayhuaman ruins (although I think you have to buy tickets). Its a really colourful affair and so many local people take part.

Hi,I have done both the Inca trail and another one that lasts 5 days called Salkantay to Machu Picchu that arrives at Machu Picchu on the last day, same as Inca trail,i would by far recommend this trek over the Inca trail.
The company I went with was just brilliant and you can ask them questions and book on-line so everything is arranged beforehand. The price includes everything, well worth it.Here is their website-www.phoenixperutours.com
