| Nadi | Heading to Fiji, New Zealand and Australia. Posted: Thu April 19, 2007 08:15 PM UTC
I am heading to Fiji in May and I plan to finish up my PADI open water dive certification. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I could do there?
New Zealand is the next stop and I have been invited to go zorbing and I think bungee jumping there by some friends of a coworker. Australia - would like to go dive the great barrier reef and deep sea fishing. Shoot me some mail if you have some other cool ideas on my vacation. Thanks!! |

Hi - I travelled in all three countries in 2005. It's definately worth organising a trip up river in the centre of Fiji. You get a tour around a traditional Fijian village (it's a wee bit kitsch but worth it as you take part in traditional Fijian dances and get to eat from a Hangi and drink Kava), you will also get to go rafting and waterfall walking.
If you are going to the North Island of NZ check out Rotorua - once you get over the strange sulphuric smells you will be treated to some incredible sights!

NOw if you go zorbing, that means Rotorua. Let me know if you make it down there, I'll take your zorb photos!!
Auckland, well you could visit Waiheke Island, take the ferry from downtown. Just a day trip. Of course Bungy off the Harbour Bridge is a blast!! That's in Auckland. Rotorua is thermal area, depends if you have seen that before or not. If not, it's pretty amazing. The colours and heat and sheer power of the earth. Your "coworker" must have some amazing friends ;-)

Subsurface Dive out of Beachcomber Island are a good dive operation. Great little Island Beachcomber too. Variety of Accomodation , meals inclusive and good rates. Do the cave tour, book at any hotel or resort tour desk on mainland, itis a good one. you hike to the cave, visit a village and travel downstream on a bili bily (native bamboo raft)lots of fun. You can white water raft, jet boat ride (but you might want to save this for NZ. Will be a bit cold in NZ but it is a beautiful country especially the South Island. Queenstown is beautiful in all seasons.
Soem great diving in Far North Queensland. Some good Barrier Reef Dive trips out of Port Douglas. Weather up there should lbe like Fiji, nice and warm.

hmmm I've just been researching the health issues in Fiji right now. We don't have time for the Typhoid vaccinations, so need to observe stingent precautions while there. I hear there is Typhoid, Leptospirosis, Mumps and Dengue. If I had time, I would definitely have the vaccinations. I leave for Fiji in a few days.
