Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Maastricht Is there a Chiropractor in Maastricht, or nearby city???
Posted: Wed April 18, 2007 12:15 AM UTC
My daughter, from USA, is studying in Masstricht. She phoned me today complaining of a stiff/sore back---painful. She thought a Chiropractor would be of help, she doesn't know how to go about finding one. I (father) immediately told her to talk to a school counselor--- she promised she would. But, in the meantime, I thought I would ask this Forum for advice/ information. Anyone know of a Chiropractor in or near Maastricht? ---Also what type of health system does Holland have, would it be costly, or impossible, for my daughter to get assistance. Again, I suspect the school will provide assistance--- but it is closed this time of day--- so, again, I thought this Forum could provide information. Any information would be appreciated. A concerned father, ---Jaes.

Dutch health system: first in line is the family doctor.

Normally the family doctor performs some first test and when necessary directs you to a specialist (like a Chiropractor) or hospital doctors.

I got the following from the Dutch Yellow pages, looking for Fysiotherapie at Maastricht:

Jahae Fysio- en Manuele Therapie
Einsteinstraat 16
6227BX Maastricht
Tel: +31-43-3612416

Hellebrekers en Schelling Fysiotherapie
Brusselseweg 366
6217HC Maastricht
Tel: +31-43-3433483

I recommend your daughter sees a family doctor first, a stiff back can also be a back mussle problem and in that case you only need mussle reliever medicines.

Good luck,

PJ

Foreign students studying in the Netherlands have to join the Dutch health insurance system if not covered by private insurance, so your daughter should not find it costly to consult a doctor. See http://www.ssc.unimaas.nl/student/default.asp?lang=uk&menuid=x0000x0554x0574x2809

There is a medical clinic at Schiphol airport that has been helpful to me in the past. Their prices are very reasonable especially when compared to the U.S.A. All of the doctors and nurses speak English very well. If it is a simple problem they could probably address it, if more serious they can refer her to a hospital. They have helped me in the past! Hope this suggestion is helpful.

if there is a school or church near her where nuns work or live she can go and ask them to recommend some one. they know who the best doctors are in the area.
also they know where to find the best bargains on most things.

Thank you to evryone who took the time to post your most helpful responses.---Update: My daughter saw a doctor at the school. He wrote her a referal slip (or something that facilitated her seeing another doctor). See went to the 2nd doctor, and is recieving help. This procedure is as described by one of you (a general/family doctor is the gateway to other doctors). Again, thank you very much for the help. ---Jaes.
