Cameron Highlands Cameron Highlands Resort, Ye Old Smokehouse & Lakehouse Cameron Highlands

We are planning to visit Cameron Highlands from 29Apr to 1May 07 and I've been doing some reading up about CH. Having read mixed reviews of these 3 accommodation choices, I think it's best to post the question to those who have stayed at the 3 places recently.

Cameron Highlands Resort:
+++ TripAdvisor's reviews: four-poster beds and are large and comfortable; complimentary pc's with internet access for guest use.
--- TripAdvisor's reviews: room smells moldy; no bathtub in standard rooms; can hear every word from your neighbours; traffic on the road is very noisy at night; large gap under the door which leads to the balcony overlooking the main road through the highlands; require insect repellent in room.

Ye Old Smokehouse:
+++ TripAdvisor's reviews: underwent some major upgrades and now has new linens, amenities, mattresses, pillows, dressing gowns and some new furniture installed in it. (http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g298292-d304757-r7279356-Ye_Old_Smokehouse-Cameron_Highlands_Pahang.html)
--- Too many to list. :S

Lakehouse Cameron Highlands:
+++ TripAdvisor's reviews: hotel is clean and very well presented (our room and bathromm were beautifuil) and photogenic....Relaxing atmosphere, good views; hotel room was cosy and nice; room was as pictured, the sheets very soft and comfortable, and the bathroom clean and large; complimentary jungle trek with Rajah, the groundsman, who was delightful.
--- VT Nissanmit's recent comment: dosen't have a good view. The "lake" is a mud pond now. Also, totally out of the way from the 2 main towns. Inconvenient even if you drive.
--- TripAdvisor's reviews: room was spacious but very minimal decorated without tv and without airco! can be a bit noisy in the morning;

Decisions ... decisions ... which to book?

hi karan...

the ch resort and ye old smokehouse are within walking distance of each other between the main towns of tanah rata and brinchang.. lakehouse is in the middle of nowhere, far from the main towns... i have stayed in the ch resort and would say that the resort is nice and cosy but imho it is certainly overpriced.... i have no comments on the other two resorts as i have not stayed there... lakehouse seems to have good reviews but it is very far from tanah rata, even if you do drive...

there are many other cheaper hotels and resorts around the tananh rata and brinchang area that are worth considering...

I have stayed at Lakehouse and it’s very English with huge 4 poster bed and all English deco. No aircond though but its quite cold at night. Its way out of the way from town centre. I love the English breakfast though. The gardens is very nice for reading.

Ye Old Smokehouse is quite similar to Lakehouse in its deco very English too. Dinner here is wonderful though.

I can't comment on CH Resort as I never stayed there. The other place that I have stayed is Equatorial hotel and I like their apartment very much. It’s very spacious with modern amenities.

Enjoy your holidays.

Can I advise Century Pine Resort?
Very convenient and pretty nice. I zeroed on it after going through a big exercise of hotel search (like one you are busy with right now ;-)

Thanks everyone for your advice. :D

I have indeed read tons of reviews from various forums and finally, we have decided on Century Pines. Looking for the website to make a booking - Deluxe Room, ground floor (remember to bring insect repellent), ask for dvd player, lalelah....mmm...wish me luck in getting a room at such short notice! *lol*

I will post our review after our stay.

Cheers!
Karan
