All 9 of us will be arriving in San Juan after a long day of traveling. Are there any recommendations (relatively inexpensive) for traveling from San Juan to Vieques? Some airlines can't take all of us, and I've heard so many different stories about the fares and travel time to get from San Juan to Fajardo that I'm not sure what to expect on that route.

We got a taxi van from the airport to Fajardo, which took just over an hour and cost $50. This was about 7 years ago and we were able to bargain the fare down from $60. Make sure you set a price before you get into a cab. The van might have fit 9, but probably not with all the luggage, so you'll need at least 2. From Fajardo, the ferry is about a 2 hour ride, but in addition you may have to wait a while in Fajardo for the ferry to arrive as the schedule is limited. The fare is only $2. Since you'll have had a long day of traveling already, you might want to plan on staying in San Juan or Fajardo your first night then set out for Vieques first thing in the morning.
