Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Limerick house numbers
Posted: Thu August 14, 2003 10:51 AM UTC
hi,

this question might sound a bit strange, especially for the Irish VT members, but I really have no clue how to find the house of my Irish host family if there are no house numbers; or do the taxi drivers know where about each family lives?? (I very much doubt that though). I mean, if it's a long road it'll take ages to go from house to house and check the surnames. *lol* So, any ideas anyone?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Kristina

Hi Kristina,
I went to university in Limerick and I think you should enjoy your stay there. If you have not been given a house number, either it was a mistake by your host family or they live in the countryside. If it is in the countryside, a taxi driver can bring you to the area and you can ask a local for directions to your host family's house. Have you been given an address? I'm sure that your host family will send on details on how to get to the house, or collect you from the airport or bus / rail station.
Good luck.
Ger.

Hi Kristina , if you have a Postal
Code of your Host Family,adress than there is a chance that you can find it even with a last name and an adress on one of the sites like MapQuest who will find it and then give you a map of where your host family lives,it is not garanteed that will work , but it is worth a try Kristina .E-mail me if you need more info , when I first started with computers ,just a few years ago ,the first thing I did was researching names in an old adress book I had , I found many people from 40 years back .So there is a way to research even without a street number.
Good luck Kristina
Hans

:-) We don't do postal codes in Ireland. thats far too complicated for us.

I expect that the host family will arrange a way to get you from Limerick bus/train station to wherever you go, I don't think they'd leave a German girl wandering lost around the streets. Al least I don't THINK so :-)

Yes but I know of a lane in Limerick where three houses in a row are each called Stella Maris. The postman who told me this also told me how they deduce which letter is for which address. It's ingenious,
doesn't involve opening the enevelopes, but is legally suspicious so I'd better shut up before I get him into trouble!

@dmrtn
no, I'll have to go there by myself from Shannon Airport :(

@Lochlainn
I don't have their email addy and I'll already go to Ireland next week (so not enough time to write a letter). I think I'll write an email to the University to ask how to find that house!

Shannon Airport to Limerick on the bus is no problem, there are plenty of buses. And the bus station is in the centre of the city.

Do you have their address? Do you have a contact phone number that you can ring when you get there?

Is it in the Castletroy district, Kristina? That's the most likely place, IMO.
If you have the address, you can check www.maporama.com to get a map & itinary.

yes, monaleen road in castletroy, next to the national school I was told. I emailed the Uni again and they explained to me what the house looks like and that the taxi driver should ring the family LOL
thanks a lot for the link, I'll check it out! :-)
