Capri can occupy all the limited time you have to give even if you don't spend an hour or even more visiting the blue grotto. VT pages will describe the attractions better than I can here.

The funicular is cheap, a few euros.

The funicular stops in Capri - top get to Anacapri requires a busride as well.

We, too, are arriving by ship and plan to spend the entire day in Capri. Do you just queue up to see the Blue Grotto? Our "tour" doesn't mention the Blue Grotto, and we really want to see it.

Sorry to jump in on your question, but we have the same one but plan to spend the entire day rather than 1/2

Thanks!

to visit the blue grotto, you can either get on a head boat at the marina grande dock. You will be transported to the area of the grotto by sea and transfer to a rowboat to go in. This can take a while as scheduled tour groups seem to get priority. Alternatively, there is a bus from ANAcapri to the top of the hill. You walk down and wait for a rowboat to come and get you.
