In September I am going on a cruise which calls at Livorno from 7am to 7 pm.
I have alrady visited Florence and Pisa on more than one occasion. Can anyone suggest anywhere else to visit? Like to use public transport. |

Try Siena for a change. It's located around 40km south of Florence. I'm not quite sure but I think by train: Take the train to Florence, change at Empoli. Maybe others can help on this issue.
Have a nice trip, Arno

Yes, as Lew, Nicolaitan said, "Lucca". It is a charming walled town, not that far from Livorno, in which you can walk the wall around the town, enjoy good shopping, see the two churches, Duomo di San Martino with a large Campanile, relics, and art works and the hugh facade of the San Michele in Fore at Piazza San Michele. See the Museum of operatic composer, Puccini. Great Tuscan restaurants abound with my favorite, Antica Locanda Del'l Angelo at via Pescheria,21. E-mail VT member "hivaoa1" who lives in Livorno for public transportion as I used Hertz right at the dock.

I vote for Lucca as well - just cannot beat those existing town walls that you can stroll or ride a bike along. The train station is very close to the walls.

Take train upto Sestre Levante or Santa Magarita, then to Portofino,or Genova,or down to Porto Venere.
