Abruzzo How do the trains/buses work?
Posted: Sat April 14, 2007 07:11 PM UTC
I will be returning to Barrea, in Abruzzo, late this summer for my second visit. I would like to take the train from the airport (DaVinci) to Avezzano, then a bus to Barrea. Anyone know how that works? Or would it be smarter just to rent a car again (with automatic transmission this time!) and drive? Thanks,
Emily

just the bus part takes two hours.. are you sure?

the regional abruzzo bus is L'Arpa.

for the train service, just check trenitalia.it

generally trains are much much slower than cars in this area - however
it can be quite suggestive if you have time and want to relax.
the last time i took the train it was not quite the most modern
train version, so don't expect anything overly fancy.
you can meet people though - they will be friendly.

if i were you, i'd definetely take a car if i was planning on further
travel within the area. in the mountains, local transportation
is cute but difficult. For one day it may be ok, but i wouldn't recommend
it for the entire vacation. if you plan to stay in barrea the entire time,
then perhaps using the train/bus might be an interesting experience.

hope this helps
