British Virgin Islands Transportation to Virgin Gorda?
Posted: Thu April 12, 2007 04:14 AM UTC
My wife and I are wondering how other people normally make it to Virgin Gorda from Canada or the US? I know some popular routes are to fly to SJU then hop on a small Cessna from Cape Air or something over to VG. Another route would be to fly to STT then ferry to VG. What method do you use? Trying to save some money here.. So far the least expensive I have found from here (Calgary, AB Canada) is: Calgary to Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) r/t $449Cnd; Cheap hotel near FLL airport, then SpiritAir flight to STT and then Ferry to VG. All of that w/o the ferry is ~$890 per person.

Is there another way we can do this cheaper? The 2nd least expensive would be to buy 2 one-way tickets. Is that allowed? One-way to STT then another one-way ticket from there back to Calgary.

Thanks!

My family and I took planes all the way from Green Bay, WI to Tortola, BVI, and it was a long day-- Green Bay to Detroit to Newark, NJ to Puerto Rico to Beef Island, Tortola. I'm not sure on this, but I don't think VG even has an airport of its own. There are probably more and cheaper flights to the USVI, so St. Thomas may be the best bet. St. Thomas is quite a ways from Virgin Gorda, but the waters are calm and there's really no disadvantage to that method of travel. Hope that helps a little. Virgin Gorda is absolutely gorgeous :)

We ended up getting that flight for $733US r/t from Calgary - St. Thomas, now we're just wondering how to get to Virgin Gorda and back to St Thomas airport with all those ferries.

As you know, we're flying into St. Thomas from Canada so will probably need to go through customs. Because of this, we're not sure how long it'll all take to get out of the airport and then from there, which is the best way of getting to Virgin Gorda. Probably a cab (avg price?) from St. Thomas airport to ferry terminal, buy ferry ticket (in person) from there to Tortola, then more customs before buying another ticket to Virgin Gorda?

We arrive in St. Thomas on Monday at 1:25pm and our flight departs Friday at 4:15pm.

Thanks for the help.
