When flying from Australia to Chile (or Argentina) you will not have much choise. Depending on what you are planning in South America I would recommend to take a look at the websites of LAN and/or Aerolineas Argentinas for their Air Passes
Personally I would opt for LAN flights. We had them last year and were very satisfied. See for more info: http://members.virtualtourist.com/vt/tfr/1/890/9/182be8/ happy travels Jaap

Aerolineas Argentinas has both flights from/to Australia (Sidney) and Ushuaia via Buenos Aires.
Usually when someone choose Aerolineas to goto Argentina, there are better fares for domestic flihts, anyway I believe Aerolinas is better for two main reason *** Both flights (Aerolinas and LAN) have a stop in Auckland, but Aerolinas use the same plane, LAN has a connection with Quantas. One less Stop AND one less Customs.. Ushuaia is Argentina, why should you pass (twice inbound and twice outbound) Chilean customs? [unless you'll be ready to wait maybe hours in transit) *** By Aerolinas is shorter you'll leave at 09:45 Sydney (SYD) and arrive at 20:36 Ushuaia (USH) total time 23:51 (LAN will take more than 30 hours) Way back will start at 14:23 Ushuaia (USH) and arrive at 08:00(+2days) Sydney (SYD) total time 28:37 BTW while I was looking at http://www.aerolineas.com.au * if it may help you * I saw Sydney - Ushuaia AUD at 1699 Conditions: Valid for travel between May 15 and June 30. Taxes and fees are not included. For futher information call: 61 2 9234 9000 You could go to USA and then to Buenos Aires/Santiago (about 40 hours and more) but for the same amount of hours and If you don't want flying over pacific, Malaysia Airlines, to Kuala Lumpur, South Africa and Buenos Aires... As usual where there is not a lot trafic fares are higher, I just looked this afernoon for myself, from USA to Manila is cheaper go to Japan first and then to Philippines..

Agree with above, the easiest option is Aerolineas from Sydney to Ushuaia via Auckland and B.A.
Lan and Qantas do have better reputations for service and being on time though, and the price is usually only slightly more. They tend to stop in Santiago though before B.A, but i imagine there could be a connection from Santiago direct to Ushuaia? LAN is a good deal at the moment, as they have a good airpass available in conjunction with international fares
