| Arnhem | Arnhem, September Posted: Wed April 11, 2007 09:24 AM UTC
Hi,
For a very long time, I have wanted to see Arnhem and surrounding areas, mainly due to the historical importance but also, from looking on the web, it looks a beautiful area of Holland. I plan to come for maybe 2 nights from Amsterdam by train. Then head back to Amsterdam for the weekend. Is 2 days enough to visit most of the sights or should I leave more time? I really want to take in as much as possible, I might even stay 3 nights just to make sure I can get to Nijmegen also. Can anyone advise or recommend some reasonable but decent hotels in Arnhem to base myself from while here. Oh I will be travelling alone, so I am hoping its easy to get around! :-) Thanks!! |

Hello,
you already posted this question yesterday. If you are disappointed with the number of replies, it might be a good idea to e-mail some local VT members directly. If you go to the VT Arnhem page, you'll find them. Just type Arnhem in the search box top right. It also helps a lot if you add some personal information on your VT page. Such as where you live, your photo, gender, age maybe... and whatever else you want to share. VT members are not nameless and faceless usually. All questions on the Netherlands forum (and any place within NL) usually get several replies from fellow Dutch VT members who really go out of their way (voluntarily!) to get the right info for everyone.

Agree with 'ATLC'.
Also recommend a visit to my hometown Apeldoorn, just 25 km's north of Arnhem, with some very interesting sights. Among them Palace Het Loo and well known Apenheul (a monkey zoo). For more info take a look at my Apeldoorn page: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/7c27b/711f0/

Hello and welcome to my hometown,
Three days (= to nights) when including Nijmegen - are necessary to explore Arnhem battlefields and the town itself. On my pages here at virtual tourist explicit information on Arnhem: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/31ce3/711d9/ For the battlefields (that mainly went on in Oosterbeek: visit my page on this Easter suburb of Arnhem: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/31ce3/6ff2d/ More questions, post an e-mail to me and I will do my best to give you all information needed. Greets from Arnhem, Paul

Hi,
Just to add - there is a manor house in nearby De Steeg village, now a hotel, where several scenes for the "Bridge too far" movie were shot: www.rhederoord.nl 9or on our De Steeg pages). It's outside Arnhem though, and rather pricey accommodation nowadays... and the site is still in Dutch only Have a good trip! P.

ah yes, I think you mean Landgoed Avegoor in Ellecom.
In any case, it's a very good hotel. See http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/2bf0c/70b7a/3/ (5 tips).

To do thing: If you're coming to Arnhem at the beginning of September, you might be able to witness (or participate) in the yearly Airborne walk on the first Saturday of September. The maximum distance is 25 kms but you can choose from 10 or 15 too (at least, that's how it was errr... 25 years ago?). I still have a few medals from that time, when I walked it. The walk takes place in and around Oosterbeek, just 10 minutes from Arnhem.

No, Anke-Thea, I did not mean Avegoor! Rhederoord did really feature in the movie.
But I agree Avegoor is also a suitable accommodation.
