| Antigua Guatemala | Best locally owned hotels Posted: Mon April 9, 2007 10:58 PM UTC
I am looking for opinions on the best locally owned charming hotel options in Antigua (looking to avoid those 5 star resorts owned by foreigners). I will be there in May to find good options so that the clients I send there will be keeping their tourism dollars in the country..

We stayed in La Casa Florencia. Its locally owned , very nice ,and spotlessly clean . From the balcony you have a perfect view of the volcano.

With property values roughly equivalent to San Francisco,Ca.,ALL the hotels in Antigua are either owned by extremely well heeled Guatemalans,Foreigners,or a combination of both. This isn't "trickle down" economics here,if You feel compelled to really help the "Common Guatemalan",I would suggest avoiding Antigua altogether. After all,You wouldn't send people to Beverly Hills to assist poor Americans, would You?

We stayed at the Hotel Aurora, not plush, but very nice, breakfast good, and courtyard beautiful.
