Dover Dover to Calais with ferry

Hello everyone!

When going to England in May we're thinking of taking the ferry from Dover to Calais. Is going there for a daytrip enough in your opinion and what is worth seeing there?
Would like to hear your experiences, thank you in advance.

Yes there is plenty to do in Calais on a Day Trip.
There are plenty of shops, Cafes, Restaurants, Beaches, Museums and the harbour to see as well as just people watching plus you can pick up a duty free allowance when crossing the English Channel.

That is a very heavily traveled day trip for people living in London and the surounding area. There should be tons of shopping and such.

Enjoy!

I agree there is plenty to do on a day in Calais. Check out this site or google it. Not so sure though about picking up Duty Free items when crossing the English Channel. Since EU one market regulations were applied to member states "Duty Free" does not apply to purchases made on cross channel ferries (nor on flights between between member states.)However it is possible to purchase within France duty paid items such as wines which, on the whole, cost less than in the UK.

Unless you are already in Calais to start the trip, you may want to look at the Eurostar through the chunnel. I recently priced an advance purchase non-refundable ticket at $60 USD (about 30 GBP) each way (I ended up booking one way London to Brussels for $94 USD.) By the time you take a train from London to Dover and take the ferry, this may not be that much more and it is much, much faster. http://www.britishrail.com/timetable_tickets.html
