| Bhutan | Visa Requirment Posted: Mon April 9, 2007 09:11 PM UTC
Hi,
I am traveling to a bunch of different countries with no timetable. I'd like to visit Bhutan. Am I able to obtain a visa upon arrival? If so, is it difficult? I am a U.S. citizen. Thanks, globetrotter |

You should contact the relevant Embassy of the countries you hope to be able to enter for reliable and up to date advice.

no you cannot. bhutan has strict visit quotas and the cost is 300 USD per DAY minimum, all relevant visa info for us citizens if on the state department page. the only countries in the area we can get visas on arrival are nepal, thailand (free), laos, cambodia, malaysia (free), singapore, taiwan, hongkong / macau (free), philippines (free), japan (free), s. korea (free), and mongolia (free). there are a few more but that covers most of them.

Actually, the cost is $200 US per day. I have a friend who got around this, though, because he had a friend in Bhutan who officially "invited" him, so he was able to enter as guest, and not pay any minimum per day fee.

Hi there. Unfortunately, visas upon arrival are out of the question. They have to be arranged before hand by a licensed Bhutan travel agent. Average prices per day are approximately $200 - $240 depending upon the accomodations, sights, and activities which you choose. However, depending upon the time of year of your visit, you can usually find cheaper prices. I am an American now living here, so if you have more specific questions, or need any help with your travel, feel free to contact me at jamie@zirkel.us. Take care and all the best! Jamie
