Hi - I've been checking into trips in Bhutan, and have read and heard about the necessity to pay $200 per day to a Bhutan travel agency. I heard that the way you pay, if you are in the US, is that you deposit the money via a wire transfer into the account of the Bhutan Tourist Department at City Bank in New York City. Is this true ? I am willing to follow the rules, but I am worried about depositing so much money into someone else's account. Is this the normal procedure for people from the USA dealing with a travel agent in Bhutan ?

You do not have to worry. I made this year twice a trip to Bhutan.
The money you pay goes to the governement of Bhutan( which is trustfull !!)
You travel agency doesn't get the money befor you had your full vacation in Bhutan and there were no complains from you.
Your guide does every thing on credit and he keeps his bills to show to the tourist authority. After giving his bills he gets paid.

Please visit Bhutan, because its a fantastic country and please google Bhutan Glory Travel agency and contact the owner Prakash. He owns this small travelagency ( NEW) and he is doing everything to become a well knows agency in Bhutan. Thats why he does better then the big angency's.
I got a nicer car, I got better food, was even allowed to eat A La Carte or he even made me fresh garden salads, and he puts you in better hotels.
He is realy fighting for becomming the best agency in Bhutan.
