I used to live in Mongolia. South Gobi is worth going to. You can stay in a ger there and visit the Three Beautiful Mountains, which are teeming with wildlife. Also, Karakorum, Ghengis Khan's ancient capital and the surrounding area are interesting and beautiful.

Hi Marcello

Mongolia is a country with big enough territory and small population comparing to its land. There are many nice spots, Actually north and south of Mongolia have so many beautiful places and national parks. Also there a one day or half day trip destinations that are close to Ulaanbaatar. Hustai national park is worth to go, its only about 80 kms from UB, you can have good walk around in the sand dunes, forested mountain and u can see Prejivalsky horse or wild horses there. There are very nice tourist resort with traditional mongolian gers and good toilet and shower facilities. Also i suggest u to take 2 day train trip to Dornogobi province. Good experience, visit local camel herder, visit old monastery, holy peak climbing (not too high) and see dinosaur skeletons in the sand. But everything depends on how long you will stay in Mongolia and what is your interest, i mean if you are angler there are good places for fishing or if you a fond to see wild animals etc.

Eastboy

Referring to your last question, try to drink airag. It's typical Mongolian. It's a fermented mare's milk.make sure you will not have stomach crisis afterwards. good luck.
