I´m going to Vannes and I want to know if I can go to Carnac by train or also by bus. I want to know too if the stones are close to downtown as to go on feet or if I need to take a bus from the train or bus station. How long should I stay there to see most of the stones?

http://www.carnac.fr/default.php?page=29 Located about 1/2 - 3/4 mile north of town, the stones are sufficiently close that walking should be no problem. I should think that one half day is enough time to visit everything.

Don't set your expectations too high. Take out 30 minutes to visit the stone field. The megaliths might be spectacular, but the place is always crowded. Difficult to take photos of the stones without other tourists around. I was quite dissapointed. A crowded spot. That was only to be expected.
