Xiamen visiting Xiamen in Jun07
Posted: Wed April 4, 2007 06:16 PM UTC
Hello,

I have booked a air tickets to Xiamen in late july. All f&e, so have to plan the monent i reach xiamen airport to all the way to departure.

i have been reading the forums. Still have some questions to ask.

1. there are buses to Xiamen city. how long will it takes to reach city from airport?

2. What is the temperature in Xiamen in late jun? will it be very warm?

3. I love ma la huo guo. Any recommandation in xiamen?

4. Lushan hotel? what is good about this hotel? is the hotel walking distance to ZhongSan Road?

5. i read some of the tour package. To go to wu yi shan with return over night train tickets and 1 night hotel stay at wu yi shan, and meals will cost about Yuan880. is this price reasonable? is tour guide needed to go wuyishan? else is it possible to do a self plan trip to wuyishan?

my planned iternary will be:

20/6: 8:00pm reach xiamen
21/6: day time tour xiamen town city, night train to wuyishan
22/6: wuyishan tour. overnight at wuyishan hotel
22/6: day time tour wuyishan. Night train to xiamen
23/6: morning reach xiamen. afternoon rest and relaz at xiamen
24/6: day trip to Gulangyu Island then back to xiamen hotel
25/6: visit Nanputuo Temple, xiamen uni, shopping
26/6:
27/6: depart xiamen at evening

I need more suggestions for places of interest? I prefer to have a slow pace trip. where other places can i go for shopping?

where is hakka round house located? is it near to xiamen? how long will it takes to reach there?

hi, welcome to xiamen

Below is my answer:

1. there are buses to Xiamen city. how long will it takes to reach city from airport?
It will takes you less than 15 minutes from airport to downtown.

2. What is the temperature in Xiamen in late jun? will it be very warm?
It will be very hot here in June, hot summer.

3. I love ma la huo guo. Any recommandation in xiamen?
There are so many hot pot shops here, you can easily find one.

4. Lushan hotel? what is good about this hotel? is the hotel walking distance to ZhongSan Road?
Lushan hotel is just near the main road of Jiahe Lu. But it is not near Zhongshan Road, you should take a bus or taxi to go to that road.

5. i read some of the tour package. To go to wu yi shan with return over night train tickets and 1 night hotel stay at wu yi shan, and meals will cost about Yuan880. is this price reasonable? is tour guide needed to go wuyishan? else is it possible to do a self plan trip to wuyishan?
I think this price is acceptable if the hotel is good, for tour guide, if you join a group, then you don't need that. You can do a self trip if you are prepared. I prefer a self trip, more fun.

If you need help in xiamen, just let me know. :)

Hi,
* ma la huo guo*
I used to enjoyed "Jing Yu Tou Huo Guo" which literally means "fish head hot pot", it has a very good taste, this is originally from Chongqing. They provide a hot pot called "Yuanyang huo guo" which means this pot has two seperate parts one contains spicy soup, another contains non-spicy soup, but generaly same materials. By this way, everyone can enjot hot pot, no matter you like spicy food or not, and you and you friends can sit together to enjoy your dinner. It is great.

*hakka round hse*
sorry, i am not sure what do you mean by this. do u have a full name?

*hotel near zhong shan road*
Yes, there is very good hotel near this road, it is called "Crowne Plaza Harbourview Xiamen "
its website: http://www.lvyou114.com/Site/965.htm

Hope you enjoy your stay in xiamen

In The topic: "In and around Shenzhen"
I wrote how I plan to travel to Fujian to see the rounded hakka houses. They are called Tulou's . Most of them are in the south and south west of Fujian.
I will start at Yongding and visit various famous Tulou's in that area. From Xiamem there is a bus going there but not sure wich one. I will be traveling the opposite direction to Xiamen. Quanzhou is also an good day trip from Xiamen.
The island Gulangyu is alittle overvalued, very touristy.

Hi Jefferyson,

May i know where is 'Jing Yu Tou Huo Guo' located? Yuan yang guo- we have it in singapore too. in sgp there is a place with many chong qing mala huo guo. And i m a regular there:)

Crowne plaza is out of my budget. too expensive. cant afford. I heard from my friend that hotels in china are quite cheap. The display price and the discount price can be a big difference.

Hi,

(1)'Jing Yu Tou Huo Guo' is located at below address:
厦门市湖里区南山路466号 津鱼头火锅
No 466, Nan Shan Lu, Hu Li Qu, Xiamen

(2) For the hotel, if you think the price is most important, then the location will not be very close to Zhong Shan Road,(downtown).
If you need help, you can contact me at my msn jefferson_xie@hotmail.com, I used to do such a part-time job. :)

I was in Wuyi shan last year about the same time. I was visiting for the tea grown there, but the scenery is breathtaking. I think you should consider at least two nights there if possible. It is like a national park with numerous sights that take at least 2-3 hours to see each. I had a fun local guide his western name is Peter and he has an email address now; peterjiang513@yahoo.com.cn. You can arrange with him directly. Summer is rather hot and quite a few tourists will be in the area, be sure to sample the fabulous teas!
Best of luck,
Kathy

2) Similar to Singapore's.
3) Do you read Chinese? Look at http://www.dianping.com/shop/547348 and http://www.dianping.com/shop/548174 for 2 recommendations.
4) Would advise staying at least 1 night on Gulangyu. If you're looking for cheap and cheerful accommodation, there're 2 youth hostels in Xiamen that you should consider. One is near Xiamen University and Nanputuo Temple, the other one is on Gulangyu. Both are good to stay at.
There're Hakka roundhouses at many locations around Xiamen eg Zhangzhou, Longyan, Yongding. You might note that there're direct buses back from these places to Xiamen airport, so if you go on 26/6 you could come back directly to 27/6 to catch your flight out.
