Maryland Mid-Atlantic trip, anny suggestions?
Posted: Tue April 3, 2007 12:38 AM UTC
Hi-

These are my travel plans for August. Nothing is set in stone, so I would love recommendations re: other cities to visit which are close by, or things to do in the cities I have chosen. Also, restaurants and thjings to do. Thanks!

Aug. 9 - land in Philly drive to Hershey ( Need good location for Hotel in Hershey) Aug. 10- Sight see in Hershey and drive to Scranton Aug. 10-12 - Wedding in Scranton

Aug. 12-14 - From Scranton we are debating on either going to NY or Atlantic City.
Need to see how to get from Scranton to NY without driving and good area for hotels

Aug. 14-18
Depending on time I would like to go to: Any recommendations on Hotel, sights and restaurants for the places below would be great!
Lewes Beach, Delaware
Ocean City, Maryland
Baltimore, Maryland
Washington D.C.

Aug 18-19
Philadelphia - (Need good location for Hotel, restaurants)

A few things. One August is brutal in the MD/DC area, so you may want to stick by the beach. I'd rule out Ocean City. Lewes is on the Delaware Bay and not the ocean, but it's nice and near Cape Henlopen, which is on the ocean and you can bike to. I"d also recommend looking into other beaches in Delaware: Fenwick Island, Bethany, or Rehoboth. It depends a lot on your preferences.

However, if you want to relax on the beach, you probably don't have time to also see Baltimore and Washington. (It's about 3 hours from the beaches to each of those cities.)

But, if you won't have a car, I'd probably recommend that you get to DC for that time (lots to see and do, and museums and metro have air con) and you can take a day trip on the train to Baltimore. And, then take train or bus from Baltimoire to Phila.

This is just a start...there's TONS to do in that part of the country, and I'm sure many others will chime in as well....But, for simplicity, it makes most sense to go from Scranton to Baltimore to DC, then back up to Phila if you don't have a car. (And, I've no idea how to get from Scranton to NYC by bus. I'm not sure if you can go by train....)

You're welcome. Also, if you tell a little more about what you're into: art, museums, beaches, gambling, historic sights, kids traveling with you, amusement parks, gardens, etc. people can be more specific and helpful.

For example, I personally would skip Hershey, unless there's a special reason you think you should go there...and Atlantic City, since I don't care about casinos. But, if that's what you're into, you should let your fellow VTers know!
