| Kotor | Kotor to Mostar Posted: Mon April 2, 2007 06:02 PM UTC
I will be flying from Belgrade to Tivat. How far is the Tivat airport from Kotor? What is the approximate time and price via taxi? What is the best way to get from Kotor to Mostar? Are there trains between the two cities? If not, what is the closest rail station around Kotor?

Tivat is very close to Kotor, but I don't know how much a taxi costs.
There is no train station in Kotor. The nearest ones are in Podgorica and Bar, but they are useless if you want to go to Bosnia as that railway only goes to Belgrade. To get to Mostar you'll probably have to go via bus to Dubrovnik (about 2 hours) and then to Mostar (3 hours or a bit more). I'm not sure whether timetables allow you to do this in one day or whether you will have to stop over in Dubrovnik. I know that in the past there was a bus that did the whole trip direct, but it may have been seasonal.

Hi!
The only way to travel by train for instance from Belgrade is to hop off in Podgorica or Bar and take a bus to the exact place. Actually, forget about train transpotration. Use buses. Be very carefull with cab drivers and bargain with them freely because Tivat`s airport is just 7 km away from Kotor. You can go to Mostar via Dubrovnik. But if you are already in Kotor, go to the bus station and get the latest info about the bus connection. Also visit www.dubrovnik-online.com/english/transportation_coach.php Well...I always say to people to be patient because they are developing online system and some very important things can`t be seen online. Good luck and have a great time! Jelena

Branko, it would be great if you say something more about Budva-Mostar you have mentioned. It is really confusing with lack of info online. Some people would search the same thing and it would be nice if they see it on forums with provided usefull links.
I am dealing the same thing here in Serbia, so I know how iritating it can be. Thanks! Jelena

Another useful link for buses to/from Dubrovnik is
http://www.libertasdubrovnik.com/voznired.swf It looks like there are currently buses from Dubrovnik to Mostar at 0800 and 1715. The first one is too early to be of use if you are coming from Kotor, but the 1715 gives you a good option if you don't mind arriving in Mostar after 8pm. There are more cross-border buses from Herceg Novi than from Kotor, so you might want to start by taking one of the many buses from Kotor to Herceg Novi and changing there. However transport in this area can vary quite a lot by season, so you should check again closer to your trip and confirm everything at bus stations.

Alan1972: Your timetable link is useful to me as I am considering bus travel between Dubrovnik and either Mostar or Kotor. You mention two buses a day from Dbv. to Mstr., but the timetable as of today (8 August) shows five a day. Does this reflect the difference between early April, when you posted, and the height of the season (which it is now)?
This has some importance for me because I'm planning to be in Dalmatia at the end of April, 2008, and although I'm told that schedules are lighter outside the high season, it's hard to find out anything specific, at least this far in advance. senchas

Senchas - I would guess that the difference is indeed due to it currently being high season. It's possible that there has been some general improvement in service frequency, but the jump from 2 to 5 services daily sounds more like a seasonal thing.
It's impossible to be sure what the timetable will be like next April, I'm sure the bus companies themselves haven't decided yet. I think you can be fairly confident there will be two daily buses, but don't count on any more than that.
