I am on a cruise in May. What is the best way to get to ephesus - take a cab from shore? other?

There will be taxis and bus excursions offered when you disembark. Check with your cruise line to see what they have to offer. I'm sure there's something available from them as well.

you can take a minibus for ephesus or you can take a taxi ..

You can also visit Ephesus by an organised tour, explanation with guide, which is as much as you go on your own by taxi or minibus. Spend more time then waisting time on the roads. See http://www.ekoltravel.com/turkey/tours/shore_kus.html, also can be fond at cruisecritic.com.

You can do an audio tour which you can purchase at the main gates at the entrance or like most historical sights in Turkey there are usually guides outside the entrance and you could hire one right on the spot. Do not know the price however. At least there were a few guides when we went there in Feb of this year. You will need at least 2 hours - 3 hours to visit Ehpesus but you could also spend as much time as you like.
