Isla de Roatán Where to stay?
Posted: Thu March 29, 2007 04:20 PM UTC
My Husband and I, both divers, are planning on a trip to Roatan in late Nov, 2007. I've been looking at Inn of Last Resort and Reef House. I know they are both two different kinds of set ups with Reef Hse having everything there. My Husband likes the idea of a more quiet place and I prefer more access to the town. One of things that I'm wondering about is which dive shop in town would be one of the better ones to dive with if we stay at LR and do any of the West end dive shops make regular dive stops on the Leeward side of the island? I've read that the reefs there are in better condition.

Anyone care to weigh in? Any thoughts, ideas or experiences would be greatly appreciated!!

I stayed at the Reef House my first time on Roatan, and it was small quiet and delightful, though the waves were a little rough out front for good snorkeling or shore diving (I was there in late Feb 2006, it may be quieter at other times of year). It's a long taxi ride to West End, French Harbor is closer. But thereagain, I spent as much time in the water as possible, so I've still never seen West End.

Diving all around the island is superb, it's hard to go very wrong. Inn of the Last Resort looks lovely, I've considered that for a future trip. If you go there, please do post reviews! Per their site, they have an in-house dive shop (as most of the resorts do, this is a divers' island), so it would be easiest to just dive with them I'd think.
