| Seward | 2 weeks in Alaska with friends Posted: Wed March 28, 2007 01:33 AM UTC
Plan to spend 1 week based in Anchorage area in a rental home, condo, or cabin. then 7 day cruise from either Seward or Whittier to vancouver. Questions
1. Rent a car in Anchorage and drive to sites of interest? 2. Try and drop car in Seward or take the train or other? 3. Best spots to visit from home base near Anchorage? 4. Ideas for best cruise? |

depends on what you like to do. Denali for sure. Ask for car rentals that can drop to Seward.

For cruises in Alaska, it all depends on your style and budget.
-- Small ships (with lecturers, up-close-to-shore abilities, but fewer on-board amenities): Cruise West. -- Medium-sized ships, luxurious, and more high-end: Seven Seas Regent Cruises. -- Big ships (thousands of passengers, so crowding in ports is a problem, but very good on-board amenities/activities): Holland America, Princess Cruises. -- Cheaper options: Alaska Marine Highway ferry boats. Hope this helps!

1. Definitely rent a car for at least part of it. Lots to do within driving distance.
3. Depends on what your interests are. Wildlife viewing (land and/or marine)? Glaciers? Hiking? Fishing? Rafting? Goldpanning? Flightseeing? 4. Again, what are your interests? Any particular port of call you are most interested in seeing? And what time of year are you going?
