Info about "House by the Pond"
Posted: Mon March 26, 2007 11:06 AM UTC
Has anyone stayed in these apartments?
If so I wonder if I could get more information about them.
Mainly I would like to know how far they are from the Sukhumvit/Asoke intersection

I've had a look in at the rooms, but never stayed there.
And I won't.

Looking at the web site, you'd think "House by the Pond" is an idyllic, little haven of serenity in Big Bad Bangkok.
But the pictures on the web site are merely the lobby area.

The rooms are very plain, very ordinary, a bit threadbare and dingy.
Nothing special at all.
What a disappointment!

The location is a quiet back street.
Too quiet.
There's nothing there, nothing at all.
Not even a 7-Eleven.
If you want anything -- from toothpaste to lunch of fried rice -- you'll need to get into a taxi (or ride on the back of a moto-cy taxi).
It's too far, much too far, to walk from the subway or skytrain locations.
And even if you really, really, like to walk (as I do), 1/2 hour in the sun and humidity of Bangkok will quickly change your mind about that.
And in the pouring, monsoon rain?
Or late, late, at night?
Forget about walking to or from "House by the Pond".

Is there any reason to recommend HBTP?
Not a one.
Oh, it's not a terrible place, not at all.
It's just that for the same money, you can find many, far better rooms, in much more convenient locations, in Bangkok.

The Grand president is a few hundred meters up Soi 11 from Sukhumvit, not too bad really as Nana station is just around the corner from Soi 11.
As to how big they are - dpends on what you want to pay. I had an executive studio which was about the size of a good hotel room at 44,000 baht a month.
For 66,000 you can get a royal suite which is much bigger with a separate living room and includes a washing machine.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the staff friendly.
I got the monthly rate from their own website at : www.grandpresident.com.
I found that the booking agencies either didn't give a monthly rate or were the same as going direct
