| York | Where is the best place in York to eat? Posted: Mon March 26, 2007 12:36 AM UTC
I'm looking for an old fashioned pub with good food - homemade soup, traditional fare etc etc. Any ideas?

The Royal Oak in Goodramgate is what you're looking for! You can see a picture of it on my York page. They even have cookery classes and are known for their food and it is all very cosy.
As an alternative, the White Swan just at the beginning of the same street is OK although less home cooked and much noisier. Finally, the snug in the Punch Bowl in touristy Stonegate IS cosy and they do serve lunch food but as for food quality, the Royal Oak beats them all.

There's also the Mason's Arms just on the outside of the city walls. Generous portions, and really nice food! Or if you want to go a bit further, theres The Windmill at Dunnington or The Black Bull at Escrick!
