| Rhode Island | Rail or Car Hire? Posted: Sun March 25, 2007 08:27 PM UTC
Three of us travelling (with baggage) from Boston to Newport RI spending 3 days in and around the latter. Considering taking the train but not sure if we'd miss having our own transport in Newport? Presume we'd have to change at Providence and then get a bus to Newport? Not sure if the $ savings would be worth the hassle...
Any thoughts appreciated. |

I would rent a car. From Providence, you may be able to RIPTA bussing to Newport, but there are no trains. Newport has a lot to offer, but if you are in the area, you might want to spend some time in Providence or Narragansette.

Thanks "Lilrhody". Think you're right. I'll hire the car. While you're on - is Block Island worth a visit?

It has been a while since I have been to Block Island. Last time I went, I had a great time riding bikes around the island, but I got board quickly. If you can, I would go to Martha's Vineyard. I am pretty sure there is a boat from Galilee that goes to MV. There is so much to do there and some of the beaches look like Carribean waters. Last time I went, I forgot I was in Massachusettes :)
