Dear all,
we are planning to visit Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in April/May.
Does anybody know how long does it take to go from Bishkek to Tashkent overland and if it is safer to
(a) book a private tour/transfer with a guy with a jeep or something;
(b) Take a train, possibly an overnight train
(c) Take a public bus

there's no need for a private tour for that as there are daily buses from Bishkek to the Kazakh-Uzbek border, from where you have to take a taxi the remaining 10 miles or so to Tashkent. If I remember correctly it took about 12 hours to the border. Don't forget that you'll cross Kazakhstan and therefore require a Kazakh transit visa, which normally can be obtained the same day as applying (if you are friendly) at the Kazakh embassy in Bishkek. The train takes a whole lot longer and there are only a few weekly departures.

better to take public bus (safer&cheaper)

I`m shadi from iran. I`m planing to have a trip to central asia countries with 3 of my freind that they are artist too. our trip starts from Turkmenistan then your country,
Tajikistan,Kyrgyzstan & at last Kazakhstan .
we are already appling visa for all 5 but the only one that is not possible is your country .
as I called embassy they need letter of invitation.
as I heard some travel agency (on tashkent) may do it will you please help me for getting LOI from one of these travel agencies for all of us (4)?
