Pulau Perhentian Besar Pulau Perhentian Besar: Can it be done?

My family will be in Sabah for 12 days. We have not accounted for the last four, and I would love to travel to Perhentian Besar, and perhaps stay at Tuna Bay Resort. Is it possible to come back from Kota Kinabalu through peninsular Malaysia to Kuala Terengganu, then on to the ferry to Tuna Bay? I tried pricing this with Malaysian Airlines, and it used up a whole travel day to get there, and the flight was costly. Is there a better/faster/cheaper solution? (If all else fails, how does Tunku Abdul Rahman Park compare?)Thanks for any help.

HI!

Just a thought:
Sabah is home to Pulau Sipadan, another marine paradise....maybe you can give it some thought?

I agree with the other 2 replies, try Sipadan. Of course, if you are dying to go to Perhentian, then use airasia.com, the no frills Malaysian carrier. Arrive at Kota Bahru which is shorter to Perhentian than K. Trengganu. You can make arrangements with Tuna Bay for transfer from the airport to its resort.

Thanks to all for responding. I am currently thinking about Lankayan island. I am a diver, but husband and daughter are big snorkelers. Would Lankayan island be a good idea? By the way, I have read a lot about jellyfish. Is there a jellyfish season, and if so, when is it? Thank you

Here are 2 sites that can provide you with some info on Lankayan. Its off the coast of Sandakan. I went to the nearby Turtle island to watch turtles over 14 years ago. Water was crystal clear. Still is, I'm sure. I'm not yet a diver or snorkeler.

Cuti means vacation in Malay.

Jellyfish is a nuisance to me. Some places have more than others. Just watch for them. Folks especially kids don't know what they look like and want to play with them End up getting stung. Then they have to take time out from the water. They shape like a mushroom with hanging tentacles. It is rare that one ends up in the hospital or be fatal.
