Nantes Advice about Train /Euro Rail etc for 3 month period
Posted: Sat March 24, 2007 04:34 AM UTC
I am realising that all the trips I am wanting to take from town to town while in Brittany is not going to be cheap!

Is it wise to buy a Euro Rail Pass , or is there some other option for regular train travel through the region?

Check into buses too. We've often found them to be very useful when places are a bit out of the way.

Hopefully someone from France (or who uses the trains and buses) will answer this.

Good luck.

Have you considered hiring a car via one of the "Open Europe" systems? if you are a non-EU member, Peugeot Open Europe is really great. A tiny 206, air con and diesel, cost me 732 Euros for 29 days...and the longer you keep the car, the lower the daily rate...goes down to about 10 or 11 Euros.
Trains are obviously great, but I found that even with a first class pass in 2006, there were days when the Railpass seats were already booked on the TGV! The upside of a railpass is if you take the wrong train, you just hop off and on...remember that the TGV charges 3 Euro extra for every leg/reservation. It adds up...If you are doing a really long trip, for eg. Paris to Avignon or Nice, look at the sncf site and book in advance...works out well and you will be surprised how cheaply one can pick up a ticket. A final thought...if you like to meander and just stop off here and there, then a car is the way to go.
