we plan to spend about a week in scottsdale, arizona and request familiar people to guide us about possible activities that we could engage in. day trip suggestions are also welcome so that we can really get a feel of the area.

When are you going and where are you staying? If you go April-October, It is going to be HOT! Over 35 degrees every day! the sun is intense. You won't want to do much between 10 am and 6pm then if you are not used to such heat.
What are you into? There are several desert 4-wheel drive outfits that will take you on desert tours. There are several north of Phoenix, near Black Canyon City and east of Phoenix near Apache Junction. Do you play golf? There are golf courses all over the Phoenix area. Just south of Scottsdale, in Phoenix, is a park that has some Native American ruins. It is a very short trip and one can take the city buses there. Scottsdale itself doesn't offer much in scenic view, except for Camelback Mountain which is just west of, actually borders on Scottsdale. There are many art galleries in Old Town Scottsdale that feature western and Native American art. But most are VERY expensive. There is a big shopping mall, the Scottsdale Galleria at Scottsdale and Camelback Roads. If you want to drive further north off I-17 there are Montazuma's Well and Castle NA ruins and Sedona, an artist community. Those are about an hour to two hours north of Phoenix. You could also go to Prescott, AZ. Go downtown to "Whiskey Row" and visit Charlotte Hall museum to see what the pioneer days were like in the late 1800's.
If you can give me specifics about when and where you'll be there and what you have an interest for, I can give you more specific info about what to do and how to get there.

Hi Bilgeez
many thanks for the info. we plan to be in scottsdale from 15th to 22nd april and hope to stay at the cambeback resort. while we are not into golfing we love to explore historical places, ancient monuments included.
we love to see the local way of life, with glimpses of past wherever possible.
sure any destination with a couple of hours drive will be our kind of activities. we includes my wife in this case. being into late sixties we would no be able to engage into very active kind of activities like the desert safaris but sure, driving around into towns where we can experience the flavour of local life is what we would like to do.please see what you can think of.
regards
