I have been told that there are some issues with the sand flies on the beaches - anyone have any knowledge of this in the July period?

Hi,
There are sand flies in every mangrove beach in Bintan, not only in July. My advice, choose hotel with good beaches. Try to search for "Bintan Resort" or visit my page. Cheers, Vicka

I never heard about sand flies.
What's the story with them, are they dangerous?

Hi,
The flies are not dangerous, but are mildly annoying. I have stayed a few times at Mana Mana (Now Nirwana Beach Club) and they never were an issue there. They were a little worse next door at Nirwana Gardens because of the open and exposed beach. Hope this helps
