Kyoto Nishiki market & Toji Flea Market
Posted: Tue March 20, 2007 09:32 AM UTC
Hi there!

We are planning to visit Kyoto in May 21, 2007. We heard so much about Nishiki Market. How do i go there?
I always fascinated about flea market. I heard there is a flea market at Toji temple. May i know which day are they open and how to get there?

Your reply would be appreciated.

the flea market at toji temple opens only on the 21st of each month. When we went, it was a tuesday. What to see - everything from antiques to clothes to food to bags etc. Prices range from cheap (700yen for a kinomo material pouch to 4500yen for the one of a kind cap I bought) The flea market opens early in the morning. I went at 9am and it was packed already.

You can get there by train, it stops at toji temple station. From there, follow the crowd. You can also use the high pagoda of the temple as a destination locator. The flea market is in the temple grounds.

P/s: beware of pickpockets. It can get really crowded at the flea market.
