Posted: Mon March 19, 2007 09:13 PM UTC
Hey fellow hikers, Ive been two supai twice now both times hiking / backapcking in the whole way, this year I was planing on trying to be the first out of my church to ever bring a wagon down there instead of a backpack, does anyone who's familiar with the trail think that this is possible, why or why not? what considerations do I need to make sure of. Thanks for oyur time

If you've been down there twice then you already know the trail and why a wagon would or would not work. Me I wouldn't do it. But if you want to try, then put everything in a backpack and then put the backpack in the wagon and then if after the first mile you figure out why it won't work then at least you can put on the backpack and keep going.

I would skip the wagon unless you've rigged up a harness that you can wear to pull it. Even with a harness, I just don't think it would be a good move for a person's body. They don't even have the mules pull a narrow wagon. If that wagon starts pushing you down the hike, you are in trouble! That's just the way down, the way up two legs is not going to cut it even with walking poles. Sorry to be a downer on the idea, but for you safety and others, please think this through!! With a backpack, the weight is distributed in a way our bodies and our walking stance can handle it. Momentum of a wagon, could lead to a disastrous fall off the edge.....please don't!
