| Nairobi | Inexpensive Family Accommodation Posted: Mon March 19, 2007 10:23 AM UTC
My Kenyan wife, myself (Brit) and our mixed race 3yo daughter would like to spend two weeks in NBI during late-May but the hotel rooms are generally on the small side and seem very costly. Are there any furnished apartments or budget hotels worth considering? We have heard about home-stays with Kenyan families but do not know where they are. Any comments would be welcome, our budget being Ksh 3,500 per day without food. Incidentally, does anybody know how much the Sportsview Hotel charges for a family room? Another option might be Mombasa.

As far as I know the Milimani Hotel in Nairobi is also renting out apartments, but I've no idea how much this costs. I somehow doubt that it will be within your budget of Ksh 3,500 but there's no harm in asking. When you google for the Milimani you should be able to find contact details on the web.

Checkout Upperhill Campsite - it's a backpackers, but you can rent your own hut. My boyfriend and I did this a month ago and it was great!! Close to the city and the huts are clean and nicely furnished.
If I go back to Nairobi I'll definitely stay there again!

We stayed at bid appartments within your budget. Small apartment with kitchen, shower room and tv. Just behind sarit centre - very good location. swimmingpool was being cleaned when we stayed for a few days. You may need to bargain a bit we got a fair deal below 3,500 a day. Have a great time.
