Nantes Travel Forum

I will be spending the Summer in Nantes and am wanting to go to the Broceliande Forest and some nearby places there.

Anyone have any stories and or suggestions about visiting this region?

You will want to visit the Abbey at Paimpont, Fountains of Jovence, tomb of Merlin the Magician from King Arthur, the Château du Comper where Vivian is supposed to have raised Lancelot of the Round Table and the Fontaine de Barenton. We found a marvelous little restaurant, the Aux Ajoncs d’Or, in Neant sur Yvel.

It’s a beautiful area, very peaceful. There is an Arthurian study center in the Château du Comper that is fun to visit. You might enjoy Trehorenteuc and Ploermel as lovely Breton towns. We visited Les Forges but it is definitely an out-of-the-way destination. You will undoubtedly need a car if you plan to get out into the country and most of the above is out in the country.

You can type Broceliande into the VT Search Window above and do a Keyword Search. Also search Paimpont because it is mentioned in many maps and books as the Forest of Paimpont.

Any info on getting from Nantes proper to said region?

How long does it take and can it be done by train or bus?

We had a car so I don't know about train and bus connections. There definitely were buses at several of the places we visited but I think they were tour buses. You can check trains at http://www.voyages-sncf.com/dynamic/_SvHomePage?_DLG=SvHomePage&_CMD=cmdHomepageUK&WB=HP

Copy the entire link into your address window and it will be the SNCF train web site in English.

You can also use your search engine (Google or another) to check tourist offices in Paimpont and Bretagne. They will have transportation information on those.
