The cost of a one-way journey from Pompei to Sorrento is 1.80 euro. Two other tickets are available. Daily tickets for use after 10 am, give unlimited travel within this zone, cost 3.70 euro. Weekend daily tickets, valid all day Saturday or Sunday, cost 3.00 euro.
Best wishes Peter.

I found that they tried to sell me Sorrento-Naples tickets when I told them I was going to Pompeii. It's not a huge price difference but it is insulting.

Hey Peter,
I will be in Sorrento for one day and would love to go to Pompeii. I am arriving at 8 am and leave at 18:00. You mentioned the prices before, but could you tell me how long it takes to get from each place and where the train drops you off? Would this be possible with the amount of time I have.

You'll be fine. You catch the train (the Circumvesuviana) on Via degli Aranci in the center of Sorrento (there's only one station in Sorrento and it's less than five minutes by foot from Piazza Tasso) and the train drops you off right at the entrance to Pompeii (stop: Pompeii Scavi). On your way back there are two trains leaving Pompeii- make sure yours is going to Sorrento.

Sorry - it's thirty-five minutes from Pompeii to either Naples or Sorrento. It's right in the middle of the line.

I agree with Jetgirly. The trip is so straightforward it can't go wrong. If you are arriving at the port, you will first have to get up the cliff. Its a strenuous walk so its best to catch a bus. Buy your ticket at the nearby shop and take any orange bus to the train station. All trains from Sorrento stop at Pompei Scavi. There is one at 8.52 (not sunday) and 9.07 daily then at about 30 min intervals, there and back. Trains from Pompei Scavi go to Naples on one track and to Sorrento on the other. They usually arrive at the same time so they can pass. Well before they arrive, there is a clear announcement, in Italian and English.
Best wishes Peter.
