Hi, We are thinking of going to Borneo next August and staying at the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru.Has anyone stayed at this hotel? We are wanting to know what the weather is like in August, does it rain much or just short showers and then sunshine? Also what is the situation regarding Malaria in Sabah? Is it a malaria zone? If anyone could help that would be great. Thanks

Hi!
I was 2 months in Malaysia and was tracking through the rainforest in Sarawak as well and didn`t take any pills and shoots for hepatitises, polio, encephalitis, malaria....Malaysia is safe. Of course, I didn`t eat bugs and stuff, but if you don`t want to limit yourself, take a shoot for hepatitis b, than you`ll be safe for the rest of your life. :) According to the monsun season, in a few days it will be a heavy rain-short shower for an hour or light rain every day...anyway, because of the high humidity you will not notice a few drops. Have fun!

We stayed at this hotel in 2005 and it is a really lovely resort. Great pools, fantastic kids club, great restaurants, rooms overlooking water or garden. It has own private beach which is not fantastic but jetty adjoining resort can take you out to the islands. Also shuttle into KK. Walking distance to hawker markets at night for great, cheap food.
