| Reykjavík | One day (and one night) in Reykjvik Posted: Thu March 15, 2007 09:07 PM UTC
My wife and I (traditional married couple inthe 50's)will stop overnight on our return to USA from Amsterdam. This will be on May 29th 2007. We want to make of those 24 hours the most and at the same time do a bit of shopping and sightseen. My wife also wants to buy a good winter coat and some souveniers.
A few questions...one good hotel close to the main town probably is the best, right? Any recomendations? Also I think that taking the bus from the airport is not bad and relatively cheaper than a taxi, right? Any good place to vist? We will arrive at the airport Keflavik at 3:10 PM on the 29th and will leave on the 30th at 5:00 PM Please any help will be nice. Thanks, Tony |

The blue lagoon (http://www.bluelagoon.com/) is the most popular attraction for tourists. You can get the bus to stop you on the way to the airport they have big lockers for your luggages. I would also recommend the restaurant of the blue lagoon: nice food, not too pricey and what a view!!!! (http://www.bluelagoon.com/Restaurant/Menu/)

Taking the Flybus from Keflavik to Reykjavik is very convenient, the bus ticket costs 1.200 ISK, about 14 EUR. You can buy the tickets at the Flybus counter in the airport or in the bus as well. They ask you to which hotel you are going to before leaving. At the bus stop in Reykjavik you change to smaller buses that take you directly to your hotel.

Any preference or suggestion about the best part of town to get a hotel? Obviously we will not have a car and want to be close to stores, attractions, etc, in the city. Any hotels? To go to the Blue Lagoon - is too far? taxi or buses?
Thanks all. ASAG

Nicer central hotels would be e.g. Hotel Reykjavik Centrum or Radisson SAS 1919. These are 4-star. Hotel Plaza is 3 star. Lots of cheaper guesthouses as well.
