| Hat Yai | Parking vehicle in Hat Yai Posted: Wed March 14, 2007 07:43 PM UTC
I am travelling to Hat Yai by jeep and would be staying for 2 nights there. After that I intend to take a shared van to Penang since my rented vehicle cannot be driven across the border.
Does anyone know where I can park my jeep safely in Hat Yai for about 5 to 9 days? |

hi there, is your rented jeep a thai registered vehicle?
if it is then you could get assistance from your tour agencies for parking facilities. Most hotels that you stay will allow you to park your car at hotel guest parking area for an extra day or two but for more than 5 days you might have to pay for parking fees, cheers and have a wonderful trip

Hi, I would seriously warn against crossing the border due to the border troubles/low intensity civil war that is raging there. the border areas are particularly dangerous. You can go from Saturn to Langawi by ferry then take a ferry/bus from Langkawi to Penang (Langkawi is also nice to visit). That is safer than the border crossings
Hat Yai is alsoa bit risky (Malaysians ahve been killed there while on holiday) although recently the trouble has been more in the border regions

Hi
Thanks for the advise but I feel the border at Bukit Kayu Hitam is rather safe. It is funny but the incidents in South Thailand and therefore all the comments uproar over the safety reminds me of the days when Malaysia ousted its ex-Deputy Prime Minister, Anwar. There were fires and violence in certain areas of KL but when viewed on CNN, it seems that the violence is in the whole of Malaysia and there is chaos everywhere. How untrue that was but then again, media always blows things up so that it becomes more sensational. I must say that travelling to South Thailand is giving most of us the creeps right now but again the incidents that are reported are incidents that happens elsewhere as well. How safe is anywhere these days? Sigh...guess the world is becoming more unsafe. We just need to be more careful, yet how can we be when we are not even the ones that create a situation for the incident to happen? So, maybe let's just have fun and live our lives to the fullest. If any of you happen to come to Koh Samui for a holiday, stop by Viking Bar (situated in Soi Green Mango, the hottest night area in Chaweng) for a drink. Cheers

Hi Judyksp,
I am interested to know how your trip goes...I will be travelling to Hat Yai in August and hope I can assess the risk from someone's account on the ground.
