| Nairobi | Booking with tour operators in Nairobi Posted: Tue March 13, 2007 08:39 PM UTC
Hi All,
Looking for a reputable tour operator to book a Kenya Safari either a camping style or lodge style for 7 or 8 days? Price would be budget to mid-range. Any suggestions? I found one company called Amicabre Travel Services Ltd. They have two locations one in Nairobi and the one at the Nairobi airport. Has anyone used them or booked with them? How are their tours? Has anyone booked their tour on the day they arrived into Nairobi Kenya? Thanks |

Hi, I've never heard of this company, so can't help you with that. But if you check out the Kenya page of Homanded here on VT you'll find lots of useful info on how to choose a reputable tour operator.

You LIVE in Kenya, according to your homepage. So why do you say you can't wait to get back there? Looks like you're yet another tour operator who comes on here, trying to deceive members by saying you're a customer.
This website is for people looking for genuine advice from travellers, and not for tour operators trying to do some free advertising for their business.

Hi Adele,
Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with someone giving advice to travellers, regardless of whether they are a tour operator or not, and I did in no way mean to imply that you (for example) would not be welcome to share your expertise here. The problem I have is with tour operators who either come on here and say "I'm a tour operator doing safaris, so book with me" or even worse, coming on here pretending to be a satisfied customer and recommending their own company. Unfortunately these incidences are a regular occurrence in the Kenya forum, and have nothing to do with the unbiased advice that you might be offering.

Perhaps I can offer the following:
I used to be a travel agent, on the IATA and, my years of travel industry experience led me to open and now operate an itinerary booking company working mainly with teachers, here in Miami, Florida. We only recomend and accompany small groups based on own personal travel experience. We DO NOT get a kick back from the tour operators, only charging a processing fee to our clients directly. I see what Brigit is saying, I too was barraged with countless emails and offers from "well meaning" satisfied clients who, in fact, were tour operators trying to mislead us. We researched our trip extensively for months before finally deciding on MADUKHA TOURS. We have added their information on our pages as well as how we came to arrive at our choice, based on background check, legitimacy and NOW, that we ourselves have used them, our own personal knowledge that they are amongst the most proffessional we have used in our many trips around the world. ALOT of the research, information and advice we received in coming to this conclusion came from none other than Brigit, who patiently steered us the "right way" and encouraged us and held our hand when we had so many questions. If you need ANY information, please be assured that you're welcomed to look through our pages, or many other legit members here on the forums, email us and we'll gladly help you find your "hopefully" dream African adventure!

You don't think you got an answer? I thought that Homer's reply was fairly detailed, included a recommendation of a tour operator, and on his Kenya page you will find many more hints and tips of how to select a company. If you are looking for another recommendation: I usually use www.malobaskenya.com, although it is a small company which is not a member of KATO.
There are gazillions of tour operators in Kenya, and finding someone on VT who has used the particular one you are asking about is a very long shot, and you most likely will not get an answer to this. Also, most travellers who visit Kenya specifically to go on safari will book their trip in advance, and the ones that come for a beach holiday and only want to do a 1-2 day trip into the bush mostly book it locally on the coast, either with their hotel, with a local tour operator or through the beachboys. It is therefore an equally long shot to try and find someone who booked a safari on arrival at the airport. Apologies for not being able to be of assistance with these question. But maybe you're lucky and get a reply from someone who can answer them. Either way, I hope you'll have a great trip!
